PACKAGE USAGE

*Roof curbs CRRFCURB022A00 and CRRFCURB023A00 are COBRA™ full perimeter roof curbs. The accessory roof curb adapters will work with

these curbs.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

Installation and servicing of air-conditioning equipment can

be hazardous due to system pressure and electrical compo-

nents. Only trained and qualified service personnel should

install, repair, or service air-conditioning equipment.

Untrained personnel can perform the basic maintenance

functions of replacing filters. All other operations should be

performed by trained service personnel. When working on air-

conditioning equipment, observe precautions in the literature,

tags and labels attached to the unit, and other safety precautions

that may apply.

GENERAL

The accessory roof curb adapter is used when retrofitting a

48/50PG unit onto an existing Carrier roof curb. The roof curb

adapter mounts on existing DJ, HJ, TF, TJ, TM roof curbs to

allow the installation of a 48/50PG unit onto the existing curb.

INSTALLATION

Follow all local, state, and other applicable codes when

installing the accessory roof curb adapters.

NOTE: All accessory roof curb adapters increase the external

static pressure. The added static pressure must be included

when calculating system requirements. See Table 1.

1. The accessory roof curb adapters have been designed to

fit existing Carrier roof curbs. Before installing, check to

ensure that the dimensions on the existing curb match the

dimensions shown in Fig. 1.

2. Make sure the existing curb and roof structure are capable

of supporting the accessory roof curb adapter and unit.

The adapter curb and unit together will weigh more than

the existing unit.

3. Turn off all gas to the existing unit (if applicable). Shut

off electric power and install lockout tag.

4. Remove existing electrical connections from existing

unit.

5. If existing unit is a gas heat unit, remove gas connection

from existing unit.

6. Some installations may have the existing ductwork at-

tached to the unit instead of the roof curb. If this is the

case, unattach the ductwork from the unit and attach duct-

work to roof curb.

7. Remove the existing HVAC unit from the roof.

8. Reinforce the existing roof curb and roof structure as

required.

9. Install sealing gasket on the top of the curb and duct open-

ings. When installed, the weight of the accessory roof curb

adapter will compress the gasket to seal the joint between

the accessory and the existing curb. Gasket strips must fit

tightly together to leave no gaps for leakage.

To prevent injuries and rain damage, do not leave roof

opening uncovered. If unit installation is not completed

immediately after adapter curb is installed, provide an ade-

quate temporary cover for the roof opening.

IMPORTANT: Gasketing is critical for water integrity.

Improperly installed gasketing can result in air leaks and

poor unit performance.
